Avaya acquired Esna Technologies

Avaya has acquired Esna Technologies in a move intended to facilitate easier user access to cloud-based, multi-vendor communications capabilities.

The acquisition will help Avaya deliver an Esna-enabled Avaya Communicator web client for both the Avaya IP Office and Avaya Aura platforms with out-of-the-box video and voice capabilities that can be embedded into public or private cloud-based business applications.

Facebook's Messenger adds video chat

Video chat has become great way for people to communicate with friends and family, especially across international borders. Facebook now wants a piece of that action.

Facebook users can soon use the social network's Messenger app to talk face-to-face over Wi-Fi or cellular networks, simply by tapping on a video camera icon at the top. The service will work between Apple devices and those powered by Google's Android software.

US mobile ad revenue spikes.

Seeing more ads on your phone? Mobile advertising surged 76 percent in 2014.  Internet advertising revenue climbed 16 percent to $49.5 billion in 2014, as a spike in sales for mobile spots pushed it above banner ads for the first time, according to a study from the Interactive Advertising Bureau.

"Marketers clearly recognize that consumers are leading mobile-first lives," IAB chief Randall Rothenberg said in the report, published Wednesday.

That's the gist of Facebook's newest app, called Riff, which encourages people to upload videos, tag them with a topic and then invite friends to respond and add content. People can create any topic they want from "#shakeitoff" to "game face."
