Specific events regulations

There are three competition formats/ playing schemes that are currently in discussion to avoid possible manipulation. The decision as to which of the options to apply will be made by each Continental Volleyball Confederation.

Only one specification concerning the participating athletes applies for all: when a country is competing for an Olympic place in the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final, it cannot be represented by the athletes that have already qualified an Olympic place for its country through the Olympic Ranking.

However, teams/ athletes having qualified the maximum (2) Olympic places through the Olympic Ranking shall represent its country at the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final and FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final.

Considering the events` calendar, another specification applies, in case of a clash of the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final or FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification with an FIVB Swatch World Tour event, the National Volleyball Federations taking part to the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final or FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification, need to be represented by their best two teams in the FIVB World Ranking. Obviously, this should be done at each National Volleyball Federation`s discretion in case the National Volleyball Federation feels that the athletes / players of their best two teams in the FIVB World Ranking are not a good fit. This will ensure the technical level of the teams at the above competitions is maintained, as well as benefit the organizers.

OPTION 1

The Option 1 competition format of the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final tournament applies two rosters to separate the countries still fighting for an Olympic place from the countries having already qualified two (the maximum places available for a country) Olympic places through the Olympic Ranking (Men & Women). The winner country of Roster 1 qualifies directly to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and then continues to the Gold match against the winner of the Roster 2 to define the country/ teams who will then have a chance to compete at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final for a Prize Money of USD 300`000 per gender.

Roster 1: Only athletes that have not yet qualified any Olympic places for its country / National Volleyball Federation through the Olympic Ranking may take part to the Roster 1 of the competition.
Roster 2: In this roster, countries shall be specifically represented by the athletes/ teams that have qualified its country / National Volleyball Federation the respective Olympic places through the Olympic Ranking.

This scheme will guarantee that ultimately the true Beach Volleyball Champion Country of the WORLD will be determined and celebrated, whereas other countries / National Volleyball Federations will be given a fair chance to live the Olympic dream!

OPTION 2

The Option 2 competition format of the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final tournament applies staging two separate tournaments in separate locations on separate dates.

The winner country of one tournament qualifies directly to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The other tournament defines the winner among the countries that have already qualified the maximum (2) Olympic places through the Olympic ranking, and consequently competes with the winner of the first tournament to determine the country/ teams who will then have a chance to compete at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final for a Prize Money of USD 300`000 per gender.

This option may create additional opportunities for Continental Volleyball Confederations to exploit Beach Volleyball event opportunities, thus adding value to the growth and media exposure of the sport.

OPTION 3

Following a proposal of CEV that had identified difficulties to set the organizational terms and conditions for the Beach Volleyball CEV Continental Cup Final event the Option 3 applies the following:CEV_worldcup_final-350-242

  • Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Final should be played without the countries, which have already secured the maximum (2) Olympic places for the Olympic Games, therefore abolishing the above need for two rosters or tournaments (as per the scheme above), but adding participating teams for the FIVB Beach Volleyball Cup Final;
  • The 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final shall be played with the following countries :
    • All five winners from the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Finals
    • All countries, which have already secured two Olympic places per gender for the Olympic Games (currently: USA, BRA, GER & SUI for men; BRA, USA, GER, AUT & CZE for women)
GOOD TO KNOW

The decision of the exact format and schedule that will be applied for the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Finals and the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final will be circulated in the beginning of the 2012!
